Contemporary dance and choreography workshops:

Young people will take part in a contemporary dance warm up, then are guided to learn choreography and create their own dance sequences. They will work solo or in groups with the four Company Upstairs dance artists on Saturday and Sunday, with their contributions being woven into a short dance performance for Sunday afternoon.

Saturday 5 May

Workshop A: 9.30am to 12 midday: 13 years and over Workshop B: 1.00pm to 3.30pm: 8 to 12 year olds

Sunday 6 May

Workshop A: 9.00am to 11.30am: 8 to 12 year olds Workshop B: 12.30pm to 3.00pm: 13 years and up

Presentation Performance: 3.30pm: Company Upstairs will present Packed Like Sardines in a Football Stadium followed by performances by the workshop participants.

Packed Like Sardines In A Football Stadium (Excerpt 2007) is a look back at Martin’s early work to see a youthful hatred of sport, but an obsession with Australian culture. The piece grew from questions about our national pride, but could be seen as a humorous take on gender in contemporary Australia.

Performers: Laura Boynes, Rachel Ogle, Isabella Stone. Directed by Bianca Martin.
